Director of Quality

The Director of Quality position is responsible for developing a QMS system of Quality and developing a high performance quality team within an organization charged with ownership of product and process quality for engineered to order HVAC industry enclosures. In addition, this position is vital to facilitating continued deployment of Lean initiatives across the organization as it pertains to Quality, incoming sub-assemblies, supplier qualifications and materials as well as manufactured products, finished goods. As a staff member, this position is a direct contributor to the companys business plan and strategic initiatives. The position will provide quality system development and leadership primarily for the Montreal operations but will be applicable for two other locations (Ottawa and their Pennsylvania location in the US) covering new product development quality, manufacturing quality, supplier quality, as well as building a talent to support the newly designed QMS. This position reports to the Vice President Supply Chain and resides in Montreal.

Responsibilities:

Develop and lead a high performance quality management system charged with ownership of product and process quality as well as develop training and the talent to sustain a robust system of quality.

Participate as a member of the Leadership Team to define the overall corporate business strategy and lead quality related to strategic objectives. Ensure the development and balance of quality to drive success of all business process initiatives while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

Set Quality objectives, evaluate performance and provide constructive feedback to develop internal talent pipeline.

Foster a customer oriented quality culture in all business processes. Mentor leadership and facilitate change management activities to support transition for a QMS management system.

Champion customer satisfaction and brand loyalty through routine review of field performance data and corrective action. Use customer data to prioritize cross-functional continuous improvement activities with engineering, operations, supply chain and key suppliers.

Ensure supplier quality through the implementation of a Supplier Quality Management System including processes for supplier qualification, part qualification (PPAP), incoming inspection, supplier audits, supplier scorecards, and corrective action.

Partner with the cross-functional teams to develop the NPD Stage Gate process by enhancing CTQ development, product/process/software validation testing, reliability testing, design review, document control and risk analysis procedures. Develop performance metrics and quality strategies by product family to evaluate new product launches and drive design evolution to deliver best in class products.

Drive process capability in Operations and supporting business processes through the use of process quality tools (SPC, control plans, standard work) and incorporation of Lean methods. Define performance standards/metrics, corrective actions and quality system infrastructure to ensure robust, reproducible, high quality products and manufacturing processes.

Train and coach the organization on the use and implementation of key quality tools and methods.

Ensure compliance with all government and industry standards/codes for product and process quality.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical or material science engineering. BS in Applied Sciences (math, chemistry, physics, etc) may be considered depending on experience.

6+ years of quality management and director levels with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience specific to quality. Preferred candidates that have work experience outside of just quality (i.e. manufacturing, process engineering, R&D, etc.).

Expertise in ISO/QS/TS type quality systems a real plus.

The preferred candidate will have experience with electronics, pumps, values, sub assembly and line assembly of metal and electrical parts, and supplier quality. Supply chain logistics experience is a plus.

Candidate must have strong business acumen and ability to command the respect and response of a peer and senior leadership group. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Candidate must be able to influence team dynamics regarding quality and continuous improvement goals, deliver constructive feedback and provide quality leadership in a cross functional environment.

Candidate must have solid understanding of statistical methods and their application to product or process engineering. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are important. The candidate must have experience with typical quality gauges and instrumentation plus understand engineering drawings. Proficiency with Excel, Minitab, and PowerPoint is expected. Project management experience is expected.

CQE, CQM and / or Black Belt in Lean or Six Sigma preferred.

Up to 25 % travel is required due to multi-site and supplier quality responsibilities.

Bilingual language skills in English/French required

 

Director of Continuous Improvement

The Director of Lean / Continuous Improvement will be responsible for the day to day Lean development and development of work team cellular and line environments involved in development and support of company vision and process improvement planning. This position will report directly to the V.P. of Operations. Will work closely with manufacturing management, engineering, and shop associates. Emphasis will be facility efficiencies, establishing procedures, process and quality improvements, lead time reductions cost reductions, inventory and handling reductions, and through put improvements. Lead and facilitate Kaizen events. Provides direct leadership to lean practices plant wide. The Director of Lean / CI will have demonstrated strong lean leadership experience that follows the Toyota Production System – Lean Manufacturing quality initiatives in a fast paced, build to order manufacturing environment. Requires excellent communications, lead problem solving, as well as proven ability to work and lead in a team environment. Must have proven record in supporting plant quality and reliability initiatives as well as strong employee engagement practices. Must be excellent with partnering with various functions as well as have a sound ability for multi project management; must also be an excellent mentor, coach and able to address staffing issues.

Requirements:

  • Four-year degree in Engineering, Science or Technology related degree needed
  • 5 plus years of Lean Manufacturing experience, value stream experience ideal
  • 5 plus years in a manufacturing environment with strong experience leading continuous improvement development in a KPI visual work place environment.
  • 5S, Value Steam Mapping, Standard Work practices, Kanban implementation, material flow, visual road maping, and other lean manufacturing disciplines to create world class manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Must also include thorough leadership knowledge in line balancing, TPM, waste reduction, and SMED in an automated and assembly environment.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
