Manufacturing Engineer

Plant start up, currently in production. The manufacturing engineer position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. Responsible for leading and growing the plants lean manufacturing efforts. Works closely with other locations, local training sources, and various other resources to expand our continuous improvement culture.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Utilizes lean methodology to identify and eliminate waste in the production process. Has a thorough understanding of lean concepts and can easily apply them to the manufacturing environment.

Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.

Evaluates existing manufacturing processes and workflows, utilizing lean manufacturing concepts, to identify areas that could benefit from improvements. Works with area supervisors to implement changes.

Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout. Is capable of designing cell and plant layouts in relevant software applications.

Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.

Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Is able to effectively summarize results for management review and decision making.

Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.

Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.

Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians and operators as needed.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities.This job has no supervisory responsibilities. However, does have the authority to enforce safety rules and procedures.

Education and/or Experience.Bachelors degree in engineering required and 3 years of relevant manufacturing experience. 3 years of Lean Manufacturing experience. Relevant experience can compensate for educational requirements.

 

Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
