Position Overview:

 

Reporting to the VP Operations, the Director of Operations is responsible for assigned Operations strategy, growth, and profitability at our two production facilities located in Mason, Ohio (totaling around 300 employees). Areas of responsibility include: Plant Management, Support Services, Sub-Assembly, Production (Fabrication, Electrical and Final Assembly), Capital Equipment and Facilities Planning, Workforce Development, Supply Chain, and Operations Strategy Deployment.

The Directors primary responsibilities are to maintain a safe working environment and to achieve overall business objectives including: quality, delivery, productivity, and lean directives, as set forth by the business. In this function the Director will need to be part of creating, communicating, supporting, and owning the vision and goals of the business.

 

As described above some of the functions include but are not limited to:

  • Work with VP Operations to focus on 4 key imperatives –
    • Safety: Focusing on leading indicators and concern reporting to drive a no injury culture.
    • Quality: All products are completed the right way the first time, every time
    • Speed: Innovation, Customer Engagement, Response, and Decision Making
    • Productivity: Process efficiency, Cost Reduction and Continuous Improvement
  • Fostering a positive employee relations environment through building a culture where employees are motivated and actively engaged in driving continuous improvement in the business.
  • Championing lean manufacturing initiatives in a manner that will support continued cost reductions, waste reductions, process automation, quality improvements, and on-time delivery. This includes policy deployment, visual management, standard work, and overall continuous improvement strategies including kaizen and 3P practices.
  • Providing leadership and setting clarity of direction to the Operations organization. Creating and communicating a vision for the operation. Developing and executing the Operations strategic plans. Assigning responsibilities for tasks and results; setting clear goals and objectives. Monitoring and measuring performance to plan. Delivering timely, objective, and actionable feedback on performance to plan. Training, developing, and mentoring reporting personnel to provide promotable candidates all levels.
  • Establishing performance metrics, standards, and measurements for direct reports and the operation as a whole. Regularly monitoring their performance through timely performance reviews to create/enhance operational efficiencies and improve performance and productivity.
  • Working proactively with and effectively engaging functional counterparts to ensure overall organizational success.
  • Ensuring that products are delivered on-time to customers and that products meet all customer expectations regarding quality and performance.
  • Directly and indirectly working with customer to understand requirements and expectations.
  • Managing business to achieve/exceed agreed-upon growth, revenue, and operating income objectives. Ensuring products meet Operations profitability goals.
  • Acting as a coach, mentor, and role model for his or her direct reports, as well as the Companys ethics and values; maintaining the highest corporate governance principles.
  • Planning and executing expansion of facilities to meet future manufacturing requirements.
  • Collaboratively working with the leadership team to establish a future state road map that will be used for capital, labor, and facility requirements.

Candidate Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Engineering, BSEE, Business Administration, or Production and Operations Management; MBA and,or SSBB preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have 5-8+ years experience in operations management, highly process oriented, with multi-site responsibilities and diverse ability to manage in a global company environment. Metal fabrication, electronics, and supply chain background is highly desirable. Success, however, will come from task simplification, line balancing, challenging the status quo, and introducing new techniques aimed at increasing throughput speed and labor optimization.
  • Solid and proven background in the application of production/inventory control, procurement procedures and techniques, and logistics.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to develop long-term strategic plans and follow-up action plan to execute on these deliverables
  • Proven leader with ability to motivate teams and drive accountability
  • Lean leadership with a minimum of five (5) years experience. Examples implementing successful lean evolutions. Must be able to demonstrate a history of sustained results in a plant setting.
  • Strong financial acumen with key knowledge of financial levers to pull to achieve results
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Adept in Microsoft Office systems and applications.
  • Initiative, planning, and follow-up are critical attributes plus ability to effectively handle multiple priorities.
