Structural Engineer

The purpose of the position is to provide structural engineering support for designing heavy structural metal equipment used for mostly outside industrial applications. Position also involves estimating cost & lead times and create new designs as well as achieving established equipment goals for safety, quality, delivery, and cost and can include better manufacturing and fabrication, design, innovative tooling, improved fixtures, and installation processes.

Key responsibilities are drive process improvements using extensive knowledge and experience calculating stability, strength, and rigidity of built and soon to be fabricated structures. This includes applied physical laws and empirical knowledge of structural performance of different materials and geometries. Responsibilities include test, validate and approve – supporting quality initiatives by ensuring parts are produced according to engineering specifications. This also includes being innovative in problem solving as it relates to tooling issues; vendors and purchasing; able to manage and prepare capital appropriations, purchase requests and justifications as needed. This reports directly to the Engineering Manager. Some travel may be necessary.

Requirements Include but are not limited to a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, and preferably a PE certification with a minimum of three to five years in heavy industrial fabrication. A background in heavy material handling equipment, custom conveyors, recovery boilers, or auxiliary equipment is preferred especially those within the power industry, or paper, cement, or other similar industries is helpful.

Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Structural Engineering software, AutoCad Pro-E, and working knowledge within the environmental and federal air and water areas.
