Supply Chain Manager

Responsible for developing and leading the supply chain strategy for a structural steel and fabrication construction company in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Accountable and responsible for developing and implementing the supply chain strategy that maximizes buying, on time delivery, lead time, quality, and logistic solutions. This position will produce improved cash flow and financial consistency.

 

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate and drive tactical and strategic business decisions as a direct report to the President with one or two direct reports as needed.
  • Develop and lead the execution of MRP (currently using FabSuite Steel Fabrication Management System) that supports supply chain objectives for Supplier OTD, Inventory, Supplier Quality, and Supplier Lead Times.
  • Implementing reduced cycles, and improved supplier OTD by developing, implementing and managing pull-based material replenishment processes, vendor managed inventory and supplier consignments.
  • Maintain awareness of steel fabrication markets and logistics related to rental equipment, MRO suppliers, and equipment logistics regarding project travel and position the supply chain to be flexible and respond accordingly to project/company needs.
  • Eliminate waste and result in breakthrough results (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Growth) throughout the Supply Chain.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the supply base by communicating objective performance metrics, focused on on-time delivery improvement, quality improvement, freight compliance and cost reduction.
  • Actively champion the Supply Chain System of management along with input regarding the Operational vision for the company.
  • Provide effective support to steel service centers in area, including proposal development, and materials strategy and execution as required.
  • Coordinate material logistics operations with operations to ensure on-time delivery and freight compliance.
  • When required assist the buyer/planner in expediting material to support daily production operations.

 

Education / Skills Required:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a Supply Chain or Materials role, at least 3 of which were in a management role. Industrial, construction, steel, or metal fabrication industry experience can apply.
  • Direct experience implementing supply chain systems, vendor management and coordination for best efficiencies
  • Prior experience implementing supplier standardization, on time delivery standards based upon forecast and overall project timing.
  • Steel buying experience a large plus as well as working with service centers
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships within a flat organization
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact based decisions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite software (e.g. Word, Excel, MS project, etc.).
  • BS/BA, technical, or supply chain / materials discipline desired.
  • Certification in CPSM and/or ISM certifications a real plus.
