Director of Engineering

$125-150K + bonus

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Recruit, develop, and manage the engineering team to support the companys growth initiatives through new product development, product improvements and custom designs.
  • Create and implement objectives and initiatives.
  • Act as a player/coach within the engineering team to participate in the design while leading and developing the overall team.
  • Organize and prioritize engineering projects to timely develop new products and custom designs. Manage new product funnel from ideation through to commercialization.
  • Recommend, develop and implement processes/procedures to eliminate waste and improve workflow.
  • Develop best methods to reduce time to assemble.
  • Collaborate with sales and the management team to focus new product development initiatives on projects with the greatest positive impact on growth and profitability. Improve existing technologies and collaborate with the sales team to implement new/innovative technologies.
  • Key member of the management team; participate in creating and implementing long term strategies for the business.
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure quality products are safely developed and delivered.
  • Participate in problem solving in the business to include root cause identification, implementing solutions and developing metrics to ensure continued success.
  • Develop standards and procedures to ensure quality standards are met and maintained
  • Design strategies for future development projects based on the companys overall objectives and resources
  • Communicate effectively with customers and vendors. Lead value engineering projects to improve cost.
  • Participate in product sourcing, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.

 

Requirements

 

  • Work experience as a manager of engineering department or in a similar position with a minimum of 5 years of hands on experience in the engineering field, and 3 years of experience managing a team and projects
  • Experience managing new product funnel.
  • Experience in integrating products to create a solution strongly preferred.
  • Experience in managing outside engineering resources strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain approach to all levels in the organization.
  • Intellectual property / patent management beneficial.
  • Extensive experience with PLC & HMI technologies required.
  • Experience in compliance (i.e. UL, FM, CE, etc.) required.
  • Past experience in designing products with excellent project management skills.
  • BSc/MSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, experience in both mechanical and electrical required.
